CLEAVE by EO Gill
EO Gill is an artist living on Gadigal land in Sydney, whose work interrogates gender, class-politics and intimacy using a self-reflexive documentary style.
The video follows two performers set in a sequence of ambiguous scenes, performed with changes in emphasis, intonation and camera placement. By adopting the cinematic languages of erotic narrative but shifting the subject matter, the work aims to critique the reinforcement of heteronormative sexual behaviour and question issues of agency, pleasure and autonomy.
EO Gill won the Bundoora Homestead Art Centre Award at the 2020 Midsumma Australia Post Art Prize for their work Physical. CLEAVE is presented in partnership with Midsumma Festival.
