Darebin Council is seeking Expressions of Interest from creative artists of any medium to lead the content curation of an online magazine that will feature local artists, artworks and articles over the next six months.

In light of the immediate and ongoing impact that the Covid-19 pandemic will have on the wellbeing of the Darebin community, Council approved delivery of the Community and Business Resilience and Recovery Package (the ‘Package’). The Package seeks to mitigate the impact of Covid-19 on of Darebin residents.

Council’s investment in this project, developed as part of this package, is intended as a temporary measure only to support community recovery and is not designed to be an ongoing model.

We are hoping to create an online platform where works of art from many mediums sit side by side to tell a story that is unique to Darebin, yet relatable to all. Artwork can be of any form, including, but not limited to:

  • Performing
  • Visual
  • Literary
  • Multidisciplinary

The only stipulation is that the artwork must be able to be presented or represented on a digital platform.

We will appoint three artists and/or curators with a connection to Darebin as Content Curators to develop a creative framework for artworks and/or articles commission process for our arts community, suitable as online content. This content would appear on an Exhibiting Culture Online forum on the Darebin Arts website.

Each Content Curator will have $12,500 with which to commission approximately 10 artworks or articles.

We will ensure there is representation of our priority communities, including; youth, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, LGBTIQA, CALD, People living with disability.

We will ask Content Curators to consider the following things as part of a creative framework:

  • Provocation, question or dare to which artists can create content in response
  • Parameters or restrictions / constraints that artists have to work within (e.g. theme or timeframe)
  • Provide examples of forms that artists could respond within

Content Curators are able to submit an artistic response of their own and lead the curation of the call out with Council officers and external assessors

The fee for the Content Curators is $3,000.
