ABOUT OUTER URBAN PROJECTS (OUP) – SOCIAL ENTERPRISE

The Dance Alliance delivered by Outer Urban Projects with Darebin’s True North is a new workshop package delivered by the company’s social enterprise Urban Events. Urban Events is an active, year round fee for service training and employment platform for our emerging artists from the outer north. It skills up and employs young artists and arts workers alongside professional artists delivering one off and repeat workshops and performances to clients from education, government, community, health, arts and corporate settings across Melbourne and Victoria.

 

ABOUT DANCE ALLIANCE

Outer Urban Projects Dance Alliance is a new public dance workshop package open to all ages and abilities and designed to activate community, public spaces and workplaces. It provides opportunities for people to come together for social and intercultural connection, team and community building and physical activity. Our expert dance instructors and emerging dancers specialise in a myriad of genres including Hip Hop, Dancehall, Disco, Go Go and cultural dance styles including Pacific Islander, Greek, Middle Eastern, Belly Dance, Tarantella, Ballroom, Latin and Contemporary.

 

TRUE NORTH – DANCE ALLIANCE WORKSHOP PROGRAM

7-9pm, FRIDAY 9 JUNE 
HIP HOP with Deon Nuku. Opening guest performance from hip hop crew, The Fire Squad

Learn the street dance styles of b-boy and b-girl and lyrical hip hop. Includes learning body isolation, hip-hop dance steps and flaring in a fun high energy group workshop.

7-9pm, FRIDAY 16 JUNE  
LATIN DANCE with Alejandro Espinosa

Learn from a Master of Cuban dance with over 20 years experience.  Let us take you on an exhilarating ride through the many Cuban styles including Rumba, Cha Cha Cha, Mambo, Salsa and Afro-Cuban.

7-9pm, FRIDAY 23 JUNE 
DANCE CRAZES through history with Anna Go-Go Academy

Dance Crazes of History is high-energy and lots of fun! Bring your mates. Bring your mum. Do the Pulp Fiction, The Pony and The Ski at your next party. From the Twist to the Thriller you will learn the greatest fad dances of history in a fun and social environment.

7-9pm, FRIDAY 30 JUNE
GREEK and BELLY DANCE with Joseph Tsombanopoulos & Melissa Cristina

Tap into your inner Zorba. Opa!  Greek dancing is a great way to meet people, have a party, and do a workout all at the same time. We will start with simple choreography with step by step instructions, and learn the Hassaposerviko and the Syrto and other circle dances from the land of the gods. Open to all ages and genders, belly dancing is a great way to warm up as it is low impact, sensual and fun. Our tutors will show you how to emanate from the torso and follow through with the hands and the feet.

EMERGING DANCER PROFILE – VICTORIA CANNING

Come along to the Darebin True North Dance Alliance by Outer Urban Projects and meet emerging dancer and dance tutor Victoria Canning. Victoria has recently completed year 12 at Reservoir High, is a Darebin Arts Ambassador and undergoing an ArtsReady traineeship with Outer Urban Projects. A talented, dynamic performer Victoria is an associate artist performing in Outer Urban Projects’ ‘Vessel’ showing at the Playhouse Rehearsal Room, Arts Centre Melbourne from 20-23 September 2017.
