Risk Residencies at Darebin Arts Centre
Do you need a no-strings space to take a creative risk? The Darebin Arts Centre is seeking expressions of interest from creative practitioners of all disciplines, to participate in a new pilot program; Risk Residencies.
We are offering free space in a bare room, for artists taking a creative risk in any art form, not for creation of a fully formed new work, but for testing something new. We want to support you to make work that pushes your usual boundaries, stretches your skills and allows you an opportunity to truly innovate, without the obligation to any fully formed output.
What you get: Up to twenty days of free room use at the Darebin Arts Centre (excluding the main theatre, and subject to venue availability). Pilot residency dates will take place between January – April 2018
What you give: Provide basic documentation of your experience, share learnings with fellow artists, and participate in feedback discussion with Darebin Arts Centre to assist with the continuation and growth of the program.
How to apply: In no more than two pages, please prepare a simple EOI addressing only these four points:
- Your connection to Darebin: e.g., key creatives are Darebin residents, participants are working in partnership with Darebin residents or a Darebin based organisation, or any other connection you can show.
- The nature of the risk: How the work you will undertake is a risk for you as an artist, your creative partners, audiences, your art form etc. The form can be in any genre, eg writing, performance, design, audio, business planning, any form that will fit in a space that we have available. This program is not intended to simply create new work, but it must be work that presents a creative risk to participants.
- How you might share your learnings over the residency with other creatives (what you tried and what you learned, this could be through a small group discussion, showing, podcast, blog entry, photos, videos etc, and may also of course change over the course of the residency)
- An outline of your preferred/ideal space, duration, days and times. These will be discussed/negotiated as part of the assessment process.
Email your EOI to firstname.lastname@example.org or call 03 8470 8277 to discuss.
Applications are now open, and will close Monday 12 March 2018, subject to capacity.
