Darebin Community and Kite Festival
Let’s go fly a kite! Perennial favourite, the Darebin Community and Kite Festival, is back. Held throughout the picturesque Edwardes Lake Park in Reservoir, the Festival is an outdoor cultural and community celebration. Fun, free and immersive, it offers a broad range of performances, kids’ art and craft activities, storytelling, community and food stalls, a pet expo, and of course, kite flying!
The 2017 Festival promises to be bigger and better than ever, with numerous activities for all ages on offer throughout the day. Explore kite-making from around the world along with performance art and craft activities at the numerous creative areas spread across the Festival site. Drop by the two music stages to catch talented young local musicians and DJs as well as a showcase of Indigenous music co-presented by Songlines Aboriginal Music Corporation. Set sail with Polyglot Theatre’s Boats, which reimagines Edwardes Lake as a wide ocean, where children use colourful vessels to navigate urban seascapes. Or visit the Feel Good & Fly area to get healthy through creative and theatrical play, try your hand at barefoot bowls or launch your kite on the kite-flying field!
Pet Expo also returns with a petting zoo, magic shows and information stalls, and Australia’s favourite kids’ comedians, The Listies will be holding court at the Storytelling Tent.
There’ll be something for everyone, so gather your friends and family, pack a picnic rug, and come and celebrate with the Darebin community.
