Darebin Community & Kite Festival 2018
The Darebin Community & Kite Festival is an outdoor cultural and community celebration and perennial favourite. The 2018 Festival will be held in the picturesque Edwardes Lake Park in Reservoir on Sunday 25 March 2018 from 11am – 4pm. A fun, free and immersive event, Darebin Community & Kite Festival presents a range of activities for all ages including performances, workshops, kids’ art and craft activities, storytelling, community and food stalls, a pet expo, and of course, kite flying!
This year, musicians, artists and storytellers will guide you around the Festival site, where numerous activities for all ages await your discovery. Explore kite-making from around the world and make one of your very own to fly on the kite-flying field. Unleash your inner comic nerd with Bernard Caleo’s Comic Strip Construction Site or cosy up with some of your favourite children’s authors in the Storytelling Tent including Trace Balla (The Thank You Dish, Rivertime) and Jessica Walton (Introducing Teddy). Drop by the two music stages (including one roving stage!) to hear from talented local musicians including Yorta Yorta singer Benny Walker and multi-award winning, anti-glamour, cabaret anarchist Yana Alana. Learn some sweet hula hooping tricks or traditional West Papuan dance moves on the Lakeside Stage, or try your hand at barefoot bowling at the Preston Reservoir Bowls Club, with beats provided by DJs General Vibes and Dee Luscious. Pet Expo also returns with dog obedience and pet first aid training, a petting zoo, information stalls and the ever-popular Pooch Parade – register your dog for their minute of fame!
With plenty on offer for everyone, the 2018 Festival is not to be missed, so gather your friends and family, pack a picnic rug, and come and celebrate with the Darebin community.
